Wireless Internet Access for Guests Print E-mail

The Situation:  A foundation conference center had limited internet connectivity for conference participants, including 3 public desktop computers in the business center and 3 additional network connections for guests with laptops.  These drops were all connected to a public network to insure the security of the foundation’s private network.

What We Did:  We determined the optimal locations for wireless access points in the public areas of the conference center as well ason the three floors in two buildings where the guest rooms were located.  We had a contractor wire the locations and run a cable between the two buildings using DSL repeaters at each end.  The access points were connected to the public network to provide wireless access in the public spaces and in all guest rooms.

The Results:  Guests greatly appreciated the ability to access the Internet from both the public spaces and from their rooms.  Contrary to expectations, this did not cut down on the interactions among guests during “free” time at conferences.
